Revenue Cutter Eagle

Commissioned in 1809Quasi-WarRecaptured the American vessels Nancy and Mehitable in a fight with the French Privateer Revenge in 1799.War of 1812During an engagement with the British brig Dispatch, the Eagle was run ashore on Long Island. The crew dragged her guns to a high bluff and fought the British ships from there. When they ran out of ammunition, the crew tore the Eagle's log book into wads and fired it back at the enemy. During the battle, the Eagle's flag was shot down three times. Each time the crew replaced the flag.

Boyce awarded the CG Distinguished Service                  Medal posthumously.
