Machiavellianism The degree to which an individual is pragmatic, maintains emotional distance, and believes that ends can justify means
Narcissism The tendency to be arrogant, have a grandiose sense of self-importance, require excessive admiration and have a sense of entitlement. Narcissists possess traits such as authority, confidence, dominance, decisiveness and high self esteem. They are likely to emerge as leaders in teams, shortterm seen as effective leaders, overtime the undesirable characteristics may shine through
Psychopathy The tendency for a lack of concern for others and a lack of guilt or remorse when their actions cause harm
Evaluation Strengths: - Deeper understanding of the leader side in the leadership process - helps to watch out for what leaders not to select - directs attention to interrelated patterns of destructive leader traits Weaknesses: - very limited research on dark side of leadership, not guided by theory, not useful for training and development
