- Place beans into a hop bag
- Put hop bag into your bright tank or fermenter
- Put ground coffee into a hop bag
- + Desirable flavors & aromas of the coffee beans are imparted on the finished beer without the burnt/bitter flavors that can occur when brewing coffee with hot water.
- - Requires a greater amount of coffee per cup of water to achieve desired results, which can raise costs.
- Brew coffee as you typically would for immediate, hot consumption.
- Pour coffee into the secondary fermenter.
- In a sterilized container, combine course ground beans with cold, filtered water at a ratio of 1-2 oz of beans per 1 cup of water.
- Seal container & refrigerate for 12-24 hours.
- Strain coffee + water mixture through a cheese cloth.
- Monitor development of coffee aroma & flavor to determine when to remove the hop bag.
- - Burnt/bitter flavors can occur when brewing coffee with hot water
- + Requires less coffee per cup of water, which can make it more cost effective when compared to cold brewing.
