- The Data Protection Act 1998 (the "Act") regulates the processing and disclosure of information and provides
individuals with rights of access to such information. The Act repeals the Data Protection Act 1984 and is now
fully in force except for some transitional provisions (see later). There are a number of important definitions
and principles which are set out below.
