- Women in the 1920's were gaining freedom both
socially and economically
- Women were smoking, drinking, skirts
became shorter
- Women started working as teachers and as
nurses.

for the affluent) so that the wife could go and live
her life

- It was easier to divorce people so lots of women were no longer tied to marriage
- The amount of housework increased
- Families could no longer afford a live in maid so
women were having to do lots of housework
- Women had to look after the children, cook,
clean, etc. This made them feel as if their
role in society has become more important.
- Women also had to do a lot of
financial work, manage the
spendings whilst the husband
provides the money
- Women could no longer have financial freedom
- Men were the priority sex and they couldn't get any jobs
- Extreme feminist beliefs returned
- The only job a women could really get was in a brothel
- RACISM AND SEGREGATION
- THE KKK
- They still exist today
- They had over 6 million clan members at the time
- They were extremely violent
- They would beat people to death, burn
people at the stake, or shoot them.
- They shot a woman who had a black
driver just because the driver was
black. Investigators found that she
was actually a very strong pro-white
rights activist.

- JIM CROW LAWS (1876-1965)
- Black people had to pay a tax to have the right to vote
- It was thought of as unlawful for Black and White
people to be in the same public areas
- A white person and a Black person cannot be buried in the same cemetery.
- A White person could not marry
a Black person

- THE DUST BOWL (1930-1936)
- Health issues were abundant during the dust bowl
- Cases of asthma were very common
for the dust made it very hard to
breathe. Dust filling the lungs is
the most common way to conceive
asthma.

causing the grass to no longer hold
the soil, and dust, in place

- Pros
- Gives people hope that by working hard, dreams will come true.
- Increases the amount of people looking for work
- Lots of candidates to hire
- Helps people through tough times

- People get greedy and
always want more
- It's a dream, not reality, never actually comes true
- People lose hope
- People are so desperate for the dream that they move
- Tears families apart
- Extreme views on femininity grew
- 2 and a half million people
migrate to California
- America was seen as the land of opportunities
- People would go there to escape their own
countries, looking for a better place to live
and raise their families in.
- But EVERYONE was looking for this land of opportunity and only a few made their dreams come true.
- THE WALL STREET CRASH
- Causes
- Too many products being sold and
not enough people buying them.
- Farmers reduced the price of their food
- People were not money smart
- People invested all of their money into stocks because
everyone was doing that, most of the time, they lost all of
their money
- An abundance of small banks
- As wall street crashed and people started trying to take out their money, banks had already become bankrupt so people never got their money back
- Effects
- 13 million people were left jobless
- They didn't have enough money to
continue living in homes or for food
- Lots of people died due to exposure to the
elements or of diseases caused by lack of
nutrition.
- Industrial production decreased by 45% and building process decreased by 80%
- The ENTIRE American banking system collapsed
- Investors lost $30,000,000,000 (USD)
