- Definition: adds meaning to, or
modifies verbs, adjectives and
other adverbs
- For example, "I ran quickly" ran would be the
verb and quickly would be the adverb as it
adds meaning to how I ran
- Adverbs of manner
- Tells you how something is done
- For example, "I walked SLOWLY"
- Adverbs of time
- Tells you when something is done
- For example, "I ran YESTERDAY"
- Adverbs of place
- Tells you where something is done
- For example, "I ran THERE"
- Adverbs of reason
- Tells you why something is done
- For example, "THEREFORE I argue..."

- An adverb that asks questions
- For example, "WHEN did you get here?"

- Many adverbs end in "ly" including hardly and
nearly but it's important not to get these mixed
up with adjectives such as kindly and early
