- Eight causes of poverty.
- Conflict.
- People are forced to leave their homes
because of conflict, and this results in
the education and healthcare being
disrupted. Many end up in refugee camps.
- Debt.
- Food.
- Without right amounts of food, families have to
send their children to work to earn the money for
food. Also, if children haven't had enough food
whilst growing up, they may have physical
problems.
- Education.
- Education helps people to
escape poverty, but often,
children don't go to school,
and so have less chance of
getting away from poverty.
- Gender.
- Women are more vulnerable to
poverty, as they don't have equal
wages as men, have less access to
education, and sometimes can't
own their own land.
- Health.
- Often, people cannot afford decent
healthcare. Lots of family members
have died from AIDS, and this leaves
families without wage earners.
- Environment.
- Trade.
