DIVISION OF LABOUR
- some cells produce hormones
- hormones are chemical messenger molecules
- they help to coordinate the activities of the whole organism
- this includes; auxins in plant, insulin and growth in animals
- plant hormones are usually refered to as plant
growth regulators or plant growth substances
- the instructions to make the hormone are located in the DNA in the nucleus
- the nucleus copies the instructions in the DNA into mRNA
- the mRNA then leaves the nucleus through a nuclear pore and attaches to a ribosome(which is attached to the rough endoplasmic
reticulum)
- the ribosome reads the instructions and uses the code to assemble the hormone(protein)
- the assembled protein inside the rough endoplasmic reticulum is pinched off in a vesicle and transported to the golgi
apparatus
- the golgi apparatus modifies and packages the protein into vesicles so that it is then ready for
release
- it is then moved to the cell surface membrane where it is secreted outside
