Lesson 2: Density
- The density of a material will always remain the same
- e.g. If you cut a material with a density of 3g/cm^3, each piece will still have a density of 3g/cm^3
- Water has a density of exactly 1 gram per cubic centimeter
- Objects that float have a density of under that of water
- Objects that sink have a density of over that of water
- Objects that are suspended have a density equal to that of water
- Equations for Density
- Density = Mass / Volume
- Mass = Density * Volume
- Volume = Mass/ Density
- Definitions
- Density- the property of matter that relates mass to volume for any particular material
- Mass - the quantity of matter in an object
- Volume - the amount of space an object takes up
