VIRTUAL REALITY
- What is it?
- “It is an environment in which technology tricks your senses so that you feel as if you
were in another place ”. That is, it is a computerized simulation of spaces diverse in
which we can interact and explore as if we were there Really.
- To get into this technology, the user needs to put on a helmet or goggles to start with
the simulation, these are usually connected to a computer, console or to the mobile
phone.
- Evolution of reality virtual
- The first concepts were a bit far from what we traditionally know as VR however the
goal was the same: bring human perception to a simulation almost realistic.
- The first of these dates from 1838, when Charles Wheatstone began his studies of
the binocular vision and the creation of stereoscopic drawings: a series of flat
images of the same object (but taken from different angles) than when combined
and displayed individually each of our eyes create the illusion of a 3D environment.
- The first visor with head tracking (technology to detect the movement of our head) It
was developed in the 1960s under the name Headsight. It consisted of a screen for
each eye and a magnetic motion detection system. This one moved some cameras
remote closed circuit. The idea was to use the viewfinder to control situations from a
distance as if you were there and it was used by the US military.
- Thanks to this commercial success, other companies have decided to invest and
develop in this segment. The VR headsets that set the standard today are: Oculus
Quest 2: From being a headset entry range, this has become the company's highest
bet. By itself it offers a good VR experience, but thanks to its Oculus Link cable; it is
possible to connect it to a PC and further improve your performance.
- Valve Index: The giant PC gaming company enters the ring with its high-end viewer
definition. Its 120Hz refresh rate (and up to 144Hz in experimental mode) make the
VR experience in them something extremely smooth. And like icing on the cake, Half
Life: Alyx is the one First AAA VR title to make the most of this viewer.
- HP Reverb G2 and Omnicept: These HP proposals have very high fidelity (2160x2160
resolution per eye). It has 4 internal cameras to detect your space in the simulation
and inter-pupillary distance adjustments. The Omnicept brings all of this to the next
level, applying machine learning to simulation (learning directly of user interaction)
while studying their biometric variables in real time (pupillometry, vision tracking,
heart level, facial expressions). This is a viewer that learn with you and improve your
well-being by participating in the simulation.
- fields of application of reality virtual
- Flight and vehicle applications.
- Medicine.
- Military.
- Space.
- Video game.
- Movie theater.
- Músic.
- Types of reality virtual
- Virtual reality semi-immersive
- Semi-immersive virtual reality offers users a combination of real and virtual
interactive elements. An example is the cinema 4D, but the most common application
is training, for example, with flight simulators that have a realistic cockpit that is
moves. This type of application allows you to train professionals without physical
risks, or high bills in case of error.
- Reality augmented
- Augmented reality, or AR, mixes virtual elements with real elements. While pure
virtual reality creates an environment that is not real, and everything is based on that
environment, augmented reality is based on our real environment, but it expands it,
modifies and complements it.
- Virtual reality collaborative
- This form of virtual reality projects the same virtual environment for several
users at the same time, regardless of their location, to share ideas and work
together on projects. It can be as simple as a virtual conference room, for
example.
- RV in the
manufacturing
- It is one of the forms of VR with the greatest capacity for development. VR and AR can
ensure safety and quality at every step of the manufacturing process, from design to
inventory management.
- RV medical
- Undoubtedly, one of the most promising VR manifestations, as it allows for very
immersive simulations that are faithful to reality of surgical procedures, and thus
allow risk-free training to surgeons.
- RV therapy
- There are patients with phobia or related disorders who can benefit from
gradual exposure to the source of the problem, a process called systematic
desensitization or exposure therapy. Virtual reality allows these patients to
undergo exposure therapy in a controllable, safe and private environment,
which increases the effectiveness of the treatment.
- Virtual reality mixed
- This technology allows combining virtual reality with the physical world, offering
a unique and very realistic experience. Is not the same than Augmented Reality,
which provides information superimposed on what we perceive, but here two
worlds overlap: the real and virtual.
