How effective is making maths and science mandatory in Yr. 11 & 12 for students in Australia?

1. Is maths and science mandatory anywhere else
  1. In China, Russia, Finland, South Korea and Singapore. Math is compulsory until the end of school.
  2. Across the USA it is a requirement for high school graduation.
  3. In the UK is it not a requirement for Yr 12 but is a requirement for Yr 11
