- NOW IT'S TIME TO START WRITING!
- DESCRIBE IN SECTIONS:
- PARAGRAPH 1:
- Describe the background --> are there mountains...the skyline of
a city...a distant lake...a small cottage etc...
- PARGRAPH 2:
- Describe the closer things ---> are you/the person standing next to/
on top of something? What are you doing there?
- PARAGRAPH 3:
- Senses ---> Sight, sound, smell, touch. What is the atmosphere like? If
there is a person describe how they feel.
- USE A VARIETY OF VOCABULARY
- AND DESCRIPTIVE
TECHNIQUES
- METAPHORS/SIMILES
- METAPHOR - Used in the same context as a simile but without the
use of as or like.
- SIMILE - a figure of speech involving the comparison of one
thing and another of a different kind. E.g. As strong as a lion.
- SHORT
SCENTENCES
- Short sentences to create a dramatic
effect.
- 5 SENCES
- SIGHT
- A burst of colour exploded over the night
sky, devouring all the darkness.
- SOUND
- The sound of lapping waves...
- TASTE
- my lips burned as the sour, acidic
lemon...
- TOUCH
- Millions of tiny fibres pricked the
end of my finger.
- SMELL
- The toxic stench of smoke and
gas....
- PERSONIFICATION
- Giving non-human objects human characteristics. E.g. The wind
grasped the note as it jumped from the tree.
- Remember not to write a "STORY" unless that is the task. You need to describe that
snapshot in time not what happens after or before (unless that is asked).
- TRY TO WRITE TWO - THREE "PARAGRAPHS"
