Connective Tissue Cartilage
- There are three different types of cartilaginous tissue:
- Hyaline
- Semi-transparent and appears bluish white in colour. Extremely strong but very flexible and elastic
- At joint surfaces provides cushioning and a smooth gliding surface
- In trachea, prevents trachea wall from caving in
- Fibrous
- Toughest of cartilage types
- Acts as shock absorber between bones and provides high level of support
- Elastic
- This contains more elastic fibres
- Helps maintain shape and flexibility and provides support
