                    Anmerkungen:

                    • what is inveloom?
                    • The thymus is where t and b cells mature
                    1. Hangs over heart, largest at puberty, shrinks as we age, makes t-cells, immunocompitent
                    2. Red Bone Marrow - B- cells
                    3. Secondary Lymph Organs and Tissues
                      1. Spleen

                        Anmerkungen:

                        • holds platelets- w/o spleen clotting can become problematic
                        1. White and red pulp; platelets are stored here; white-lymphatic tissue; old rbc's are destroyed here
                        2. Lymph Nodes
                          1. Scattered along lymphatic vessels; superficial and deep; serve as filters
                      2. Lymph- Clear, Milky interstitial Fluid in the lymphatic system
                        1. lymph moves the same way that blood moves-body facilitation

                          Anmerkungen:

                          • lymph fluid moves by respitory pump
                          1. Afferent Vessels- going in

                            Anmerkungen:

                            • There are more Afferent vessels then efferent, this is to give the B and T cells a chance to attack.
                            1. Efferent Vessels - going out

                              Anmerkungen:

                              • Less of these, and they leave the lymph node through the hilum (indentation)
                              1. Immune Response
                                1. Innate

                                  Anmerkungen:

                                  • We are born with this type of immunity, we get this from Mom
                                  • At birth we have non-specific and non adaptive immunity (immune response), this includes 1st and 2nd line of defense pgs 886-888 in text
                                  1. Adaptive (aquired)

                                    • two types, cell mediated or antibody mediated, both are gained through vaccines
                                    • Describes the ability of the body to adapt defenses against antigens of specific bacteria, viruses, foreign tissue.....even toxins
