The Hydrological Cycle
- 1) Transpiration
- The return of water (as
water vapour) to the
atmosphere by plants.
- 2) Condensation
- The change of a state from water vapour
(a gas) to a liquid (when cooled).
- 4) Infiltration
- The gradual movement of
water through the soil and
into the ground below.
- 6) Groundwater flow
- The movement of water
beneath the ground towards
rivers / the sea.
- 3) Precipitation
- Water falling, under gravity,
from the sky; there are many
forms, i.e. snow, rain and hail.
- 1) Evaporation
- The change of state from liquid water
to a gas (when heated).
- 7) Channel flow
- The movement of water
within the river channel.
- 4) Surface runoff
- The down slope movement of water
over the surface of the land, towards
river channels.
