3 Processes of
the Respiratory
System
- Ventilation
- Inhalation/Inspiration = Breathing IN
- Exhalation/Expiration = Breathing OUT
- Gas Exchange
- What is it?
- Movement of gases in and out of the body.
- 2 Way Process
- Waste Gases OUT
- By Diffusion.
- Oxygen (O2) IN
- Internal Respiration (Cell Respiration)
- Anaeroboic
- NO Oxygen
- Muscle Cells SHORTCUT
the Respiration process.
- But Makes LACTIC ACID (poisonous)
- e.g Runners pant after a race, to get rid of
Lactic Acid, with EXTRA Oxygen. Or they get
cramp.
- OXYGEN DEBT
- Extra Oxygen needed to break down the Lactic Acid. Even after
exercise, when heart rate is still high and breathing rate is still
high.
- LACTIC ACID + OXYGEN ----> CARBON DIOXIDE + WATER
- GLUCOSE ----> LACTIC ACID + ENERGY
- Aerobic
- USING OXYGEN, to release energy
- GLUCOSE + OXYGEN ----> CARBON DIOXIDE + WATER + ENERGY
- OXYGEN DIFFUSES into the
MITOCHONDRIA, where the process
takes place.
