Haber Process
- Ammonia made of Hydrogen and Nitrogen
- After gases obtained, they are pumped into a compressor tank
- Pressured to 200 atmospheres
- Heated to 450 degrees in a room with
beds on iron catalyst
- Un-reacted products and ammonia go into cooling tank
- Ammonia seperated and non-reactants are passed through catalyst again
- When pressure is increased, gas with least no. of molecules is favoured
- Equilibrium yield of ammonia is increased with pressure
- Strong pipes and a lot of energy needed
- Forward reaction is endothermic; backwards is exothermic
- Exothermic yield decreased with temperature
- This causes slower reaction rate
- Longer the process, the more expensive it is
