Changes in Roles of Women
  1. Weimar
    1. Very traditional - 3 K's introduced - Children, Kitchen and Church
      1. German civil code - Legal status did not change as they said it would
      2. Gave women the vote - first country in the world to do this.
        1. 112 women in the Reichstag
        2. The 'New' women - Flappers - Smoking, more sexual freedom etc.
          1. Introduced by America and France
            1. Greatly discouraged
          2. More white-blouse jobs (Secretarial)
            1. WW1 saw women take men's jobs
              1. However actively asked to give up work
                1. 'Last to be hired, first to be fired'
                2. Unequal pay between genders
            2. Nazi
              1. 3 K's remained but less need for 'church' - this took away attention from the Nazi's.
                1. Discouraged women from taking part in politics
                  1. No women Nazi officials
                    1. Couldn't take away the vote because needed women's support
                  2. Flapper women still discouraged.
                    1. More sexual freedom meant that this reduced the amount of 'Aryans' being born.
                      1. Aryan Race = New ideas
                      2. Women expected to be fit and modest
                      3. Worked in the home or in domestic jobs only
                        1. More successful in removing women from work (E.g. marriage loans)
                          1. Unequal pay between genders
