- Voters had to decide whether they wished to remain as part of the UK or leave and become part of the Republic of Ireland.
- 98.9% voted to remain in the UK.
- But the Catholics boycotted the election so the result was meaningless
- 2016 EU REFERENDUM
- Voters were asked if they wished to remain in the EU or leave.
- 51.9% voted to leave the EU.
- There has been a lot of controversy over the close result.
- The turnout was 72.2%

- 1975 EEC REFERENDUM
- Voters in the UK were asked whether we should remain in the EEC.
- 64.5% turnout
- 67.2% voted yes.
- 1979 SCOTTISH ASSEMBLY REFERENDUM
- Voters were asked if they wanted a Scottish Assembly to be set up.
- 63.8% turnout.
- 51.6% voted yes.
- However, the low yes vote meant that the assembly was not set up.
