Biology B1
- Cells are either prokaryotic or eukaryotic.
- Eukaryotic - complex and include all animal and plant cells
- nucleus- contains genetic material organised into chromosomes
- Cytoplasm - gel like substance where most chemical reactions happen. contains enzymes that control these chemical reactions
- partially permeable membrane - holds cell together and controls what goes in and out
- Mitochondria - contains the enzymes needed to control most of the reactions in aerobic respirations. respiration transfers energy that the cell needs to work
- Ribosomes - these are involved in protein synthesis
- prokaryotic - smaller and simpler,e.g. bacterial cells
- born store genetic information in the form of DNA
- DNA contains instructions in that control the activities of the cell allowing the whole organism to develop and function as it should
- genetic material is stored differently in both types of cell
- different parts of a cell are called subcellular structures
