“Otherness” is a category that can be used from a political perspective, for example, to justify and legitimize violence that was inflicted during the colonial expansion.   In this new unit, we will expand on the idea of otherness as a political category by reflecting on Latin America, a space that has a unique colonial history. food for thought...why did Kafka represent otherness through an animal? are animals the ultimate “others”? what does thinking about animals about humans?

Letter to a Young Lady in Paris - what is the general form of the story?  An epistolary. - who is the narrator and what is he like? We don't know much about him and we don't even know his name -who is Andrea? she is a friend of the narrator and the recipient of the letter. although it was not specified in the text, it is not very probable that they were involved romantically. she was not rich, but she was comfortable to travel often, she especially loved traveling to Paris.  -  how would you describe his narrative? I think that the bunnies could be taken literally but also chances are that the bunnies were a symbol for something deeper. (mental illness? his troubles?) - what is this story about?  He feels like he doesn't belong in her house. "I didn't want to intrude" connections and talking about death "photograph of a dead friend" " he sees her apartment as a work of art. "to move that try is the equivalent of an unexpected horrible crimson in the middle of one of Ozenfant's painterly cadences" (8).
