Frage Antworten
How do Unicellular organisms get and get rid of substances in order to live? The substances can diffuse directly in and out of the cell across the cell membrane. The diffusion rate is quick because of the short distances the substances have to travel.
Why can multicellular organisms not get and get rid of substances via diffusion? Direct diffusion from the outer surface would be too slow, as the substances need to travel large distances to reach every single cell.
What do the xylem tubes transport? The xylem carry water and mineral salts
How do xylem tubes transport water and mineral salts? From the roots up the shoot to the leaves in the transpiration stream.
What do phloem tubes transport? The phloem tubes transport sugars, like sucrose, and amino acids from where they're made in the leaves to other parts of the plant
What is the movement of food substances around a plant called? Translocation
How are root hairs adapted to take in water? Each branch of a root are covered in millions of hairs. Therefore, the plant has a big surface area for absorbing water from the soil.
Water is taken in to the root hairs by which process? There's a higher concentration of water in the soil than inside the plant, so water is drawn into the root cell by OSMOSIS
