Frage Antworten
Homeostasis Maintaining a balance in an organism’s environment; keeping stable conditions.
The Cell membrane helps maintain homeostasis and it is a PHOSPHOLIPID BILAYER
The two major components of the cell membrane are lipids and proteins
Endocytosis Particles move INTO the cell
Exocytosis This causes the cell to expand (swell) WATER moves into the cell Example: Distilled water
Hypertonic Solution Causes a cell to shrink (shrivel) WATER leaves the cell Example: Salt water
Isotonic Solution The cell stays the same
Passive Transport NO energy is needed
Simple Transport The movement of molecules from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration
Facilitated Diffusion Molecules move from a high concentration to a low concentration, but with help of a transport (carrier) protein
Osmosis Diffusion of water
Active Transport Energy is required to move molecules from low to high. It uses transport proteins (sometimes called pumps) Examples: sodium (NA) Potassium (K)
