Whole Numbers Numbers that represent a WHOLE (no decimals)
Integers Whole, natural numbers that are both positive and include the negative counterparts (no decimals)
Rational Numbers All numbers that can be written as a FRACTION. Includes all natural, whole numbers and integers Eg. 6/1, 2/1, 0, -3/1 ...
Irrational Numbers All numbers that cannot be written as a FRACTION. Eg. pi
Repeating Decimal A decimal that has a repeating sequence of numbers. It is rational! Eg. 2.353535...
Irrational Decimal A decimal that has a random, infinite sequence of digits. Eg. pi 3.14159...
Equivalent Fractions Fractions that look different but are equal Eg. 2/3 = 4/6
Alike Fractions Fractions that have the same denominator Eg. 4/6 and 5/6
Factor Numbers to be multiplied together
Product Answer to a multiplication problem
Quotient Answer to a division problem
Inverse/ Reciprocal Opposites or same operations going different directions Eg. + and -
Perfect Square A number that divides into itself. It has two identical factors. Eg. 9 = (3x3)
Square Root To find the root of a perfect square. Eg. The square root of 9 is 3
Prime Number A number whose factors are only one and itself Eg. 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23...
Prime Factors The smallest multiples a number can break down into(all prime numbers) Eg. 100 = 2x2 x 5x5
Exponent The number of times a base is multiplied by itself to be a power Eg. 3^2 = 2 is the EXPONENT
Base The number that is multiplied by itself an X number of times depending on the exponent Eg. 3^2 = 3 is the BASE
Power Repeated multiplication is done to the base determined by the exponent
Expanded Form (of a power) Is the form of the entire equation Eg. 3^2 is 3 x 3
Exponential Form (of a power) Is the form of the power Eg. 3 x 3 = 3^2
Standard Form (of a power) The solution to the power Eg. 3^2 = 9
x^1 A number to the power of 1 equals itself
x^0 Any number to the power of 0 equals 1
BEDMAS or PEMDAS Acronym for Brackets(Parenthesis), Exponents, Division/Multiplication, Addition /Subtraction
Distributive Property Exponents applying to brackets are applied equally to every term(number) in the brackets
Volume Formula: l x w x h Is the total space an object takes up x^3
Surface Area Formula: side area x Sa x Sa x Sa.... Is the areas of all the sides added together x^2
Volume of a Cube lwh or l^3 (all sides are equal, remember?)
Surface Area of a Cube 6 x side area (all sides are the same)
Volume of Triangular Prism l x h/2 (triangle) x w
Surface Area of Triangular Prism 2(l x h/2) (triangle) + base + 2 (other rectangles)
Volume of Rectangular Prism l x w x h
Surface Area of Rectangular Prism 2(side area x) + 2(side area y) + 2(side area z)
Volume of Cylinder pi x radius^2 x height
Surface Area of Cylinder (2 x pi x radius x height) + (2 x pi x radius^2)
Volume of Rectangular Pyramid l x w x h /3
Surface Area of Rectangular Pyramid Area of base + 4(slant x base /2)
Volume of Cone pi x radius^2 x height/3
Surface Area of Cone pi x radius^2 + pi x radius x slant height
Volume of Sphere 4/3 x pi x radius^3
Surface Area of Sphere 4 x pi x radius^2
Constant Has a constant, known value
Variable Has a value that can change
Co-efficient A constant that is multiplied by a variable
Reciprocal To flip or do the opposite Eg. + is the opposite of -
