What is the main purpose of Analysis? | -Research the previous system using fact-finding techniques -Identify the main requirements-Draw up the requirements spec -Identify the Inputs and Outputs -Describe the system using DFDs -Define the Input, Output and Processing Requirments -Identify the Hardware and Software Constraints -Identify the Hardware and Software required |
Name the four fact-finding techniques. | Interviews Questionnaires Observation Document sampling |
Explain how Document sampling can be used during Fact-Finding | This is used to find out how data flows through the organisation It looks at how data is inputted and outputted. Typical documents are data collection forms, invoices, orders, receipts -Allows Analyst to get an idea of the volume of data stored x-Can be time consuming if there are large amounts of data |
Evaluate observation as a Fact-Finding technique | The analyst selects a sample of end-users and shadows them as they perform their everyday tasks. -Analyst can get a feel for user competence and allows SA to get a better idea of the time required for a task, and the constraints and strengths of the current system x-Users may respond differently to being watched |
What is the difference between Functional and Non-Functional Requirements | Functional requirements describe what the system must be able to do e.g.How data is entered into a system Non-functional requirements specify additional criteria by which the system will be judged e.g. response time, in x seconds, backup and recovery, access restrictions e.g. read only |
What is a Data Flow Diagram used for? | It's used to show how data moves through a system and what data is stored. |
What is a context diagram also called? and what does it do? | A Level 0 Data Flow Diagram. It sees the system as one main process, identifying the main source and main data flows. Identifies the inputs and outputs of the system Doesn't consider data stores at this time |
What does a Level 1 DFD do? | It breaks down the process into a number of sub-processes showing how the data flows between these. Also at this stage data stores are shown and an indication where data is stored |
Evaluate Interviews as a Fact-finding method | Involves users answering questions asked by the SA on a 1-to-1 basis or in small groups -Users can express opinions in a detailed way and it allows for follow up questions x-Time consuming and users may suggest answers SA wants to hear |
Evaluate Questionnaires as a Fact-finding method | Involves a representative group who complete a set of questions which could be open or closed aimed at identifying detail on current processes and data -More efficient in terms of time x-Inflexible in answers as mainly multiple choice and there are low return rates |
