Frage Antworten
SURVEY A METHOD USED FOR COLLECTING INFORMATION FROM A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE BY ASKING THEM QUESTIONS, EITHER BY USING A QUESTIONNAIRE OR IN AN INTERVIEW.
QUESTIONNAIRE A SET OF STANDARD QUESTIONS ABOUT A TOPIC THAT IS GIVEN TO ALL THE PARTICIPANTS IN THE SURVEY.
CLOSED QUESTION A QUESTION WHERE THE POSSIBLE RESPONSES ARE FIXED, OFTEN AS 'YES' OR 'NO' QUESTIONS.
OPEN QUESTION A QUESTION WHERE THE PERSON ANSWERING CAN GIVE ANY RESPONSE THEY LIKE.
UNAMBIGUOUS SOMETHING THAT HAS ONLY ONE MEANING
ECOLOGICAL VALIDITY THE RESULTS OF THE INVESTIGATION CAN BE SAID TO APPLY TO REAL-LIFE BEHAVIOUR. THEY ARE AN ACCURATE ACCOUNT OF BEHAVIOUR IN THE REAL WORLD.
EXAMPLES OF CLOSED QUESTIONS 1. ARE YOU FEMALE? YES/NO 2. DO YOU WATCH TV? NEVER/SOMETIMES/OFTEN 3. DO YOU PLAY VIDEOGAMES? NEVER/SOMETIMES/OFTEN
EXAMPLES OF OPEN QUESTIONS ANSWER EACH OF THESE QUESTIONS AS CLEARLY AS YOU CAN. 1. WHAT KINDS OF TV PROGRAMMES DO YOU WATCH AND WHY DO YOU CHOOSE THESE? 2. WHY DO YOU ENJOY PLAYING VIDEOGAMES? 3 HOW WOULD YOU ANSWER SOMEONE WHO SAYS VIDEOGAMES ARE TOO VIOLENT?
INTERVIEW A METHOD IN WHICH A RESEARCHER COLLECTS DATA BY ASKING QUESTIONS DIRECTLY.
INTERVIEWEE THE PERSON/RESPONDENT WHO ANSWERS THE QUESTIONS IN AN INTERVIEW.
STRUCTURED INTERVIEW AN INTERVIEW IN WHICH ALL THE QUESTIONS ARE PRE-SET, GIVEN IN A FIXED ORDER AND EVERY INTERVIEWEE IS ASKED THE SAME QUESTIONS.
UNSTRUCTURED INTERVIEW AN INTERVIEW IN WHICH ONLY THE FIRST QUESTION IS SET AND ALL OTHER QUESTIONS ARE DETERMINED BY THE ANSWERS OF THE INTERVIEWEE.
ADVANTAGES OF INTERVIEWS -PRODUCE A LARGE AMOUNT OF DATA -PROVIDE INFORMATION ABOUT THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS THAT CANNOT BE FOUND BY JUST WATCHING BEHAVIOUR -DATA FROM STRUCTURED INTERVIEWS CAN BE COLLATED AND ANALYSED EASILY -DATA FROM UNSTRUCTURED INTERVIEWS ARE DETAILED AND HAVE ECOLOGICAL VALIDITY
DISADVANTAGES OF INTERVIEWS -THE RESEARCHER CANNOT BE SURE THE INTERVIEWEE IS TELLING THE TRUTH, SO THE DATA MAY NOT BE ACCURATE -STRUCTURED INTERVIEWS LACK DETAIL AND MAY BE FRUSTRATING FOR: 1.THE INTERVIEWER, WHO WANTS TO ASK ANOTHER QUESTION 2. THE INTERVIEWEE, WHO CANNOT EXPLAIN THE ANSWER THEY HAVE GIVEN. -DATA FROM UNSTRUCTURED INTERVIEWS MAY BE DIFFICULT TO COLLATE AND ANALYSE
