Frage Antworten
Population distribution in the UK -AREAS OF HIGH POPULATION DENSITY- -In cities for access to work eg. London -high density on flatter land in river valleys(more accessible) -Big industrial towns grew next to coalfields eg. Birmingham -High pop-dens around coast allowing the development of ports + trade eg.Liverpool
Population distribution in the UK -AREAS OF LOW POPULATION DENSITY- -Low pop-dens in rural areas as fewer jobs in farming -Low density in upland areas eg. NW highlands where it is + has poorer weather
Population distribution in India -AREAS OF HIGH POPULATION DENSITY- -In cities for access to work and services eg. Delhi/Mumbai -around the coast allowing the development of ports + trade eg. Mumbai/ Kolkata -Where there is fertile land for farming eg. Ganges river valley -Subsistence farming is common so there are still many rural dwellers
Population distribution in the India -AREAS OF LOW POPULATION DENSITY- -In areas of extreme climate eg. Thar desert -In upland areas eg. Himilayas -Rural depopulation due to Green revolutions mechanisation as fewer workers are needed
Comparing the two: -SIMILARITIES- -Both countries have a lower population density where the physical conditions make it difficult to live and work eg. mountainous areas -Both countries have high population density in lowland areas where cities have grown up (as they are more accessible, provide services and jobs ect.) -Both have high density around the coasts allowing the development of ports and trade
Comparing the two: -DIFFERENCES- -India has a higher average population density of 382 people per sq km compared to UKs 261 -India has higher population density in rural areas than the UK as subsistence farming is common there and the UK has a low population in its rural areas as mechanisation means there are fewer jobs
