Dawes Plan -Reparations begin at 1 billion Marks for first year. Then inc over 4 years to 2.5 billion Marks. -German Reichsbank would be recognised - USA to give loans to Germany to help its economic recovery -begins with 800 million Marks, inc to $3billion over 6 years
Retenmark was temporary currency- began November 1923 It was issued in limited quantities to prevent inflation Following year the Retenmark was converted to the Reichsmark, a new currency now backed by a gold reserve
Young Plan Criticised by right wing politicians such as Adolf Hitler and Alfred Hugenburg -Reparations reduced by 3/4 from £6600million to £1850million -Extended length of payment (59years) - average of 2.05 billion marks/year
Stresemann wanted to improve relation with France and Britain to gain their co-operations in reducing some of the worst features of the TofV 1925-Germany signed the Locarno Treaty with Britain, France, Belgium and Italy
Locarno Treaty -Countries agreed to keep existing borders -Marked Germany's return to the European International scene -It began the co-operation between Germany, France and Britain
League of Nations -September 1926, Germany given a permanent seat in the council -This confirmed Germany's returnto "Great Power" -Germans regarded the League of Nations as the guardian to the TofV
Kellogy-Brund Pact 1928, 64 other nations -Everyone kept armies for self-defence As a result of Stresemann's foreign policy -1925 France withdre from the Ruhr -Allies agrred to Dawes+Young plan -1927 allied troops withdrew from the West bank of the Rhine, 5 years before the original schedule
1924-1929 greater political stability Although no single party won the majority of seats in the Reichstag, up until 1930, Social Democrats always won the most vote 1924-1929, greater support for parties like the Weimar Republic: less support for extremist groups like the Nazis due to the economic recovery. May 1924- Social Democrats had 100 members in Reichstag, which rose to 153 in may 1928 whereas the Nazis had 32 which ell to 12 in may 1928
Political stability happened because of Stresemann and Hindenburg Stresemann was a popular leader of the Weimar Republic due to his success abroad Hindenburg, one of Germany's political leaders during 1914-1918. 1925 elected President and showed that the old Conservative order now accepted the Republic
