Describe the similarity between Descartes' & one of St. Thomas Aquinas' proofs? They are both similar to God by describing how He is perfect
Explain how 3 of Aquinas' proofs are essentially the same proof. They say that God must have existed
What kind of shift occurs with revelation? Trying to find God
What are the two sources of Divine Revelation? Sacred scripture & tradition
What does Lewis mean when he writes that laws are real or not real? Things behave in a certain way, & that there may not be something beyond the things we can see
How is the Law of Human Nature above and beyond the actual facts? We did not invent it, & we have to obey it
What 2 views about the universe does Lewis offer? Briefly summarize each one. ~ The materialistic view people our entire universe happens to exist somehow as a fluke ~ The religious view believe there has to be some mind behind the universe
Does Lewis condemn science? Explain. He does not condemn science. He only states what science can & cannot do. He also calls science necessary & useful.
What is the one and only thing in the universe that we can know more about than can be learned from external observation? Man
How come the moral law cannot be observed? It cannot be observed because studying Man from the outside cannot bring any evidence that we have moral law. We cannot observe what we should, but only what we actually do.
Explain the analogy Lewis makes between a power that runs the universe and an architect Just as an architect can't be the staircase or door of their own building, the supposed creator of this universe wouldn't reveal itself to us as a fact
How does Lewis suggest that an influencing power in the universe reveals itself? An influencing power in the universe reveals itself by us looking inside ourselves

What can be said with certainty about God? God is a mystery
Explain the Iceberg Analogy A minority of God is known, just as a minority of an iceberg is above the surface. The majority about God is unknown, just as the majority of an iceberg is below the surface.
