Question Answer
How does the channel protein aid in the movement of particles through the cell membrane? It allows ionic compounds to move freely through the membrane to reach equilibrium
If A cell is placed in a solution with a salt concentration much higher than in the cell cytoplasm (inside of the cell). Why does the cell shrink? The cell will shrink because if there is more salt on the outside of the cell, there is less water molecules, therefore water ( which is in high concentration in the cell) will flow out of the cell to a lower concentration.
Which organelle performs Cellular Respiration? Mitochondria
What is cellular respiration? The process by which cells convert chemical energy in certain foods to a usable form for cellular energy
A decrease in the rate of oxygen released by a plant cell is due to the decreasing activity of what plant organelle? Chloroplast
Lack of what organelle, is a characteristic of a prokaryotic cells? No Nucleus No membrane bound organelles
What is the main difference between Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic cells? Eukaryotic DNA is found in the nucleus of the cell and prokaryotic DNA is free floating within the cell cytoplasm
Why do living things need a regular supply of carbohydrates? to provide a source of cellular energy
Which macromolecule is the main component of the cell membrane? lipid
If a cell was placed into a solution, what type of scenario would allow for water to flow from the cell to the surrounding solution? If the cell were placed in a solution where the concentration of water inside the cell was greater than the concentration of water outside the cell, then water would flow from the cell to the solution.
Which diagram shows the processes of passive transport? D: This shows passive transport because no energy is needed to allow the molecules to move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration through the cell membrane with the help of a Channel Protein.
Which organelle can increases its activity to make more energy available for the cell? Mitochondria
Which cell structures are found in Prokaryotic cells and Eukaryotic Cells? Cell membrane Ribosomes cytoplasm Nucleic Acids
What do carrier proteins do in Active Transport? Move substances from a low concentration to high concentration through the cell membrane with the use of Energy (ATP)
How would drinking sea water (salt water) affect the cells in the body? Water would flow out of the cells and they would shrink because the concentration of salt would be higher outside the cells then inside, therefore the water concentration would be higher inside the cells and would flow out.
What special name means the diffusion of water? OSMOSIS
What is the name of the movement of molecules that flow from a high concentration to a low concentration? DIFFUSION
What is meant by the word EQUILIBRIUM? When the concentration of molecules is equally distributed throughout the area that they are in.
Which cell structure allows for a cell to take in food and remove waste products form the surrounding environments? 4: Cell Membrane
The (FILL IN THE BLANK) are organelles that contains enzymes necessary for intracellular digestion Lysosomes
The (FILL IN BLANK) modifies proteins before they are used by the cell or transported out. Golgi Complex (apparatus)
What takes place in the structure labeled 4? (The arrow is pointing to the little dots on the Endoplasmic Reticulum...) Protein Synthesis
Which organelle stores the information that codes for protein structures? 2: Nucleus
Which cell organelle is responsible for photosynthesis? 3: Cholorplast
Which macromolecule has a structure made up of an amino acid chain? Protein
What is the function of enzymes? To reduce the activation energy needed for reactions
Maltase is an enzyme found in cells. The diagram shows the activity of Maltase: What is the function of maltase in the cell? Breaks the bond between glucose molecules
Which of the pictured molecules is a Nucleic Acid? C: is the structure of Nucleic Acid
What are the main functions of the macro-molecule protein? Repairs and builds acts as antibodies enzymes
What is the type of macro-molecule pictured and what is it's function? Lipid: Energy Storage
When diffusion is complete, cells reach an............? Equilibrium
