Abraham Lincoln	Ran for senator in Illinois but lost. Senatorial race made him well-known, even more so then his 6ft 4 height.
Independence, Missouri	Where Oregon Trail started
Comp of 1850	Made by Henry Clay gave N CA as free state. For South gave fugitive slave act
Fugitive Slave act	declared N had to return the escaped slaves to masters in South, but N didn't listen 2 this.
