Question Answer
What is Chemical Bonds? Chemical bonds are when two or more electrons are attracted to the nuclei. / It is the electrostatic force that holds atoms in a molecule.
Why do chemical bonds form? They form when the atoms collide and the outermost electrons of the atoms come into contact with one another thenThe positively charged nucleus of each atom pulls on the valence electrons.
What is electrostatic force? It is the force between charged particles.
What is bond energy? It is the energy required to break a particle bond in a compound.
What is bond length? It is the distance between the centers of two nonmetals/covalent bonds.
What is needed to break chemical bonds and how? Energy is needed to break a chemical bond. Energy must be transferred to a strong bond to return its atom to zero potential energy
What are covalent bonds? It is a chemical bond that forms when two atoms share their outmost electrons.
What does the octet rule state? It states that atoms tend to bond in a way that they each have 8 electrons in their outer energy level, giving them the same electron configuration as a noble gas.
What are the types of covalent bonds? singe covalent bonds double covalent bonds triple covalent bonds coordinate covalent bonds
what do they each do? when two atoms they share two electrons forms a when two atoms share four electrons when two atoms share six electrons when one atom supplies both electrons for the bond
