Causes? | - 60mm of rainfall fell in 2 hours - The flood coincided with high tide - Boscastle is located at the confluence of 3 rivers - The ground was already saturated from the previous two weeks of average rainfall - Steep slopes and impermeable surfaces caused rapid surface run off |
Effects? | - Many buildings were swept away - Income from tourism was lost - No deaths however someone did break there thumb - Houses, cars and businesses that belonged to 1000 people were swept away |
Responses? | - New flood defense built - Low bridge removed - Major incident was declared to the nation at 5pm that evening - RAF search and rescue were alerted to help find trapped people |
