Augustan Ideal | Very different from Homeric ideal, lacks the idea of individual glory. Focus that Rome comes first and Pietas. Mos Maiorum, good political and military leader, brave, dutiful, loyal, clementia. |
Clementia | Showing mercy, compassion and leniancy. Relates to the Roman aim of peace and stability. |
Furor | An emotion of complete madness, mania, rage and fury that can dispel intelligent thinking. |
Pater Familias | Pater - father. Head of the family, used as a political term as well. |
Patronymic Epithet | Epithet that relates to patronage as oppose to title due to deeds. e.g. Augustus Caesar |
Patriarchal Lineage | The oldest man is the head fo the family and constantly in full control, the lineage would always derive from the male line. Mean't citizenship laws were very fluid. |
Pietas | It roughly translates to mean respect for ancestors, country and institution (Rome). A form of extreme patriotism. Associated with duty, honour and respect. |
Portents, Prophecy and Foreshadowing | Often provides an advanced sign of what is to come in the future. |
Zoomorphism | Attribution of animal characteristics or qualities to a god - or use of animal forms in symbolism. |
