Question Answer
Neutraphil
Blood Composition- Neutraphils 70-80%
Neutrophils Increase - During Bacterial Infections
Eosinophil
Recognizable Features- Eosinophil Bi-lobed & segmented nucleus, dense dark pink granules
Blood Composition- Eosophils 1-2% of WBC's
Granulocyte White blood cell with secretory granules in its cytoplasm
Role- Eosinophil Activated by parasites/allergens
Basophil
Blood Composition- Basophil 1-2% of WBCs
Recognisable Features- Neutrophils Multi lobed nucleus, no granules
Role- Basophil Sythesize/store heparin & histamine
Recognisable Features- Basophil Large, non-lobed nucleus, dense, dark purple granules
Monocyte
Blood Composition- Monocyte 5% of WBC's
Reconisable Features- Monocyte Small, pale granules, folded brain-like nucleus, abundant cytoplasm
Role- Monocytes Phagocytosis
Lymphocytes
Blood Composition- Lymphocytes 20% of WBC's
Recognisable Features- Small Lymphocyte Large, dense round nucleus & thin basophilic cytoplasm
Recognisable Features- Large Lymphocytes Indented nucleus & more abundant cytoplasm
Blood Composition- T-Lymphocytes 90% of Lymphocytes
Recognisable Features- T Lymphocytes TCR, Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta are rearranged to provide more immunity
Blood Composition- Beta Lymphocytes 10% of lymphs
Role- B Cells Antibody production- humoral immunity (Ig presenting)
Recognisable Features- B Lymphocytes IgH, IgKappa (60%) and IgLambda (40%) are rearranged to provide more immunity
Macrophages Monocytes in tissues- become actively phagocytic
Location of Macrophages Liver, spleen, kidnes, lungs & lymph nodes
Accumulation of Macrophages At chronic infection sites
Role- Macrophages Produce IL1 & TNF in response to endotoxin
Natural Killer Cells Cells that lack membrane associated markers
Natural Killers Cells Present CD16 & 56
Role- Natural Killer Cells Kill microbes and tumor cells, release granules
