Question Answer
What are the two types of questions that a re asked with regard to Normal Curves to find the probability of events where X<A, X>B, and A<X<B, and to find the percentiles.
How do the X, U and sigma values change when you use a normal curve? x is converted to Z, u = 0 and sigma = 1
how do you find the probability of Z<A for a normal curve? take your value of Z and go to table two. the value on the table that lines up with the Z is your area probability
how do you find where Z>B for a normal curve 1 - Z<A
how do you find A<X<B for a normal curve A1-A2 = A3
How do you find the percentile of a normal curve? first find the area using the z score. line it up as close as you can because the percentile value will not be on the table exactly.
How do you find the Q1 and the Q3 for a normal curve? if u is 0 and sigma is one the probability that z is greater then Q1 and less then Q3 are 0.25 and 0.75. find 0.25 as a z score to find the area which is between two values. find the average of those two areas this is your Q1. Your Q3 is just the negative value of of this
What is Z Alpha notation? a Z score that has alpha area to its right under the standard normal curve
how do you find the Z Alpha notation? Z subscript = find the subscript on table 2 and use it to find the area
How do you find probability for any normal distribution? sketch the distribution with the mean and shaded desired area. convert x to z. but both sets of values on the x axis, z below x. use table 2 to find the desired probabilities
