Question Answer
Cells in our body have a NUCLEUS which contains DNA The DNA in the NUCLEUS is arranged into CHROMOSOMES. We have 23 PAIRS
CHROMOSOMES are LONG MOLECULES OF DNA A GENE is a SHORT LENGTH of a CHROMOSOME
GENES control CHARACTERISTICS, e.g hair and eye colour There are different versions of GENE, different versions of the same GENE are called ALLELES
Each GENE is a CODE for making a certain protein Some PROTEINS are STRUCTURAL, these are found in skin, hair, blood and the cytoplasm
COLLAGEN is a PROTEIN found in tendons, bones and cartilage Some PROTEINS are FUNCTIONAL, ENZYMES are proteins that help with digestion
AMYLASE is a digestive ENZYME that breaks down STARCH to MALTOSE An ORGANISM GENOTYPE is all the genes it has, the characteristics is the PHENOTYPE
