Simile A comparison of two unlike things using Like or As
Alliteration The repetition of usually initial consonant sounds in two or more neighboring words or syllables
Hyperbole Big exaggeration, usually with humor
Idiom The language peculiar to a group of people
Metaphor Comparing two things by using one kind of object or using in place of another to suggest the likeness between them
Onomonatopeia Naming a thing or an action by imitating the sound associated with it
Personification The act of giving human qualities to things.
Characterization the method used by a writer to develop a character
Conflict the struggle found in fiction. Conflict/Plot may be internal or external and is best seen in (1) Man in conflict with another Man: (2) Man in conflict in Nature; (3) Man in conflict with self.
Connotation an implied meaning of a word

Rising Action events in the story leading up to the climax
Climax the culmination of events in the story, point of highest reader interest
Falling Action events leading to the solving of the story’s problems
Resolution how events and problems of the story are solved
