NATURAL HAZARD A natural process which could cause death, injury or disruption to humans, or destroy property and possessions
NATURAL DISASTER A natural hazard that has already happened
GEOLOGICAL HAZARDS Hazards caused by land and tectonic processes e.g. volcanoes earthquakes landslides avalanches
METEOROLOGICAL HAZARDS Hazards caused by weather and climate e.g. tropical storms extreme weather climate change
HAZARD RISK The probability that a natural hazard occurs
FACTORS AFFECTING HAZARD RISK VULNERABILITY - Large population density in areas exposed to natural hazards raises the probability of being affected CAPACITY TO COPE - To be counted as a hazard, it must affect people. The better a population can cope, the lower the threat. NATURE - The hazard risk from some hazards is greater than others.
