Evolution
  1. Variation
    1. Intraspecific variation is variation within a species. Interspecific variation is variation between species.
      1. Continuous variation: Mass, height, length
        1. Discontinuous variation: Sex, blood group, colour, shape
        2. Genetic factors
          1. Different species have different genes
            1. Same species, same genes but different version
            2. Inherit gene from parents, variation caused by genetic factor is inherited
            3. Environmental
              1. Differences in the environment: climate, food, lifestyle
                1. Accents, piercings
                2. Both (genetic and environmental)
                  1. Height: diet and nutrition contribute as well as inheritance
                    1. Flagellum: grow in certain environments, if metal ions are present
                  2. Adaptions
                    1. Increases the organisms chances of survival and reproduction and also the chances of its offspring reproducing successfully.
                      1. Adaptation develop because of natural selection
                        1. Best adapted individuals are more likely to survive and reproduce, passing adaptations to their offspring.
                        2. Behavioural
                          1. Ways an organism acts that increase its chance of survival.
                          2. Physiological
                            1. Processes inside an organism's body that increase its chance of survival
                            2. Anatomical
                              1. Structural features of an organism's body that increases its chance of survival
                            3. Theory of evolution
                              1. Darwins theory
                                1. Individuals within a population show variation in their phenotypes.
                                  1. Predation, disease and competition create a struggle for survival
                                    1. Individuals with better adaption survive longer
                                      1. Number of individuals with the advantageous adaption increases
                                        1. Over generation it leads to evolution
                                        2. Speciation
                                          1. When populations of the same species evolve to become so different that they can't breed to produce fertile offspring
                                          2. Evidence to support evolution
                                            1. Fossil record evidence
                                              1. DNA evidence and common ancestors
                                                1. Molecular evidence such as proteins
                                                2. Resistance to antibiotics and pesticides
                                                  1. By natural selection. There is a variation in a population of bacteria/pests. Genetic mutation make some bacteria/pests resistant to an antibiotic/pesticide. Some will survive and pass genes on generations
                                                    1. Infections caused by antibiotic resistant bacteria are harder to treat.
                                                      1. Crop infestations with pesticide resistant pest are harder to control.
                                                        1. Disease carrying pest become pesticide resistant, disease will be harder to control
