Signal Transduction
  1. STARTS with chemical message which is transduced into specific forms and sent out
    1. Analogy: Jimi Hendrix playing guitar; vibrations he plays on strings is transduced by magnets into an electric signal
    2. Receptors pick up message and modify it
      1. Types of receptors: G couple protein receptors, Tyrosine KINASE receptors, ligand gated ion channel
        1. then sent to transduction where the message is made in a specific form (secondary messenger) for the target cell
          1. ex. cAMP
        2. EX. Epinephrine (ligand) binds with G-protein (receptor); change in shape of protein and subunit is released to Adenylyl Cyclase (protein) which activates adenylyl - converts ATP in cAMP (secondary messenger); cAMP is spread through out the cell targeting protein kinase; extras able to bond with other proteins in cell such as phosphate which phosphorilizes to produce glucose
