    1. WIPO is the global forum for intellectual property services, policy, information and cooperation. We are a self-funding agency of the United Nations, with 191 member states
    2. 6.2 Which are the five types of intellectual property and how are defined by the WIPO?
      1. 1. Copyright: is a legal term used to describe the rights that creators have over their literary and artistic works. Works covered by copyright range from books, music, paintings, sculpture and films, to computer programs, databases, advertisements, maps and technical drawings.
        1. 2. Patents: A patent is an exclusive right granted for an invention. Generally speaking, a patent provides the patent owner with the right to decide how - or whether - the invention can be used by others
          1. 3. Trademarks: A trademark is a sign capable of distinguishing the goods or services of one enterprise from those of other enterprises. Trademarks date back to ancient times when artisans used to put their signature or "mark" on their products.
            1. 4. Industrial designs: An industrial design constitutes the ornamental or aesthetic aspect of an article. A design may consist of three-dimensional features, such as the shape or surface of an article, or of two-dimensional features, such as patterns, lines or color.
              1. 5. Geographical indications: Geographical indications and appellations of origin are signs used on goods that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities, a reputation or characteristics that are essentially attributable to that place of origin. Most commonly,
                1. a geographical indication includes the name of the place of origin of the goods.
              2. 6.3 What is Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC)? The WIPO Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) program provides innovators in developing countries with access to locally based, high quality technology information and related services, helping them to exploit their innovative potential and to create, protect, and manage their intellectual property (IP) rights. Services offered by TISCs may include:
                1. • access to online patent and non-patent (scientific and technical) resources and IP-related publications;
                  1. • assistance in searching and retrieving technology information
                    1. • training in database search
                      1. • on-demand searches (novelty, state-of-the-art and infringement)
                      2. 6.4 What is Inventor Assistance Program (IAP)?
                        1. Is the first global program of its kind. It matches developing country inventors and small businesses with limited financial means with patent attorneys, who provide pro bono legal assistance to secure patent protection.
