Electrophillic addition (use of dipole charges and curly arrows)
H20(l) and CONC: {H3PO4} with HEAT
Hydration
Removes the double bond and adds an OH instead
Eg: CH3CH=CH2 + H20(l) ------> CH3CH(OH)CH3
Electrophillic addition
HBr(l)
Eg: CH3CH=CH2 + HBr -------> CH3CHBrCH3
Annotations:
Note that HBr breaks down to H+ and Br- .
The H+ always goes to the atom with higher H atoms of the double bond pair.
EG: CH=CH2
The CH2 has more H atoms :)
