Overpopulation - One Child Policy Introduced
This policy had prevented 300 000 births
In 1950, Chinese couples were advied to have children to build a strong army and help with food supplies
This lead to problems with food, this is turn lead to a great famine.
Couples mainly wanted boys so they could carry on the family name.
This then lead to problems such as abortions (sometimes illegally)
This also lead to orphanages being filled quickly because girls were being disregarded and dumped .
Couples with only one child gained benefits such as longer maternity leave.
