  1. There are three different types of cartilaginous tissue:
    1. Hyaline
      1. Semi-transparent and appears bluish white in colour. Extremely strong but very flexible and elastic
        1. At joint surfaces provides cushioning and a smooth gliding surface
          1. In trachea, prevents trachea wall from caving in
      2. Fibrous
        1. Toughest of cartilage types
          1. Acts as shock absorber between bones and provides high level of support
        2. Elastic
          1. This contains more elastic fibres
            1. Helps maintain shape and flexibility and provides support
