The creation story was written
during the Babylonian Exile.
7 is a significant number in the
first book.
There are many verses in the first book that
correspond with the number 7. Also, during the
week of creation God rested on the 7th day.
Adam was the first man
created, and his name
means human
God created Eve, Adam's wife, so Adam
wouldn't be alone. The first thing God
said was bad was loneliness.
People believe that the creation story was
written as a poem. They thought this because
of the different patterns.
On the first day of creation, God
created light and darkness. He called
it day and night.
2. The Flood
Noah took 2 of every animal, one
male and one female.
It rained for 40 days and
40 nights
God sent a
rainbow to show
that He would
never flood the
whole earth again.
Mankind was
hating instead of
loving.
Noah was the only one still obeying,
that's why God saved him.
Noah sent out a dove to figure out
if there was dry land.
Noah built the ark to
survive the flood by
following God's specific
instructions.
3.Blessing of Abraham
God said that Abraham would
be a father of a great nation
Abraham's wife Sarah was
barren, so he had a child with
Hagar.
Their son's name was Ishamael, and he
and Hagar were banished from
Abraham's family later in life.
God fulfilled His
promise, and gave
Abraham and
Sarah a son.
Their son's name was Isaac,
and he continued the lineage
of Abraham.
God told Abraham he would
have as many children as
grains on the sand.
God told Abraham would have descendants as
numerous as the stars in the sky.
4. Jacob and His Family
Jacob was Isaac's
son, and had an
older brother
named Easu.
He stole his brother's
birth right by tricking
his father with his
mother's help.
Jacob's wives competed for his
love, so they tried to have as
many children with him as they
could.
Jacob had a total of 12 children, but
Joseph was his favorite because he
was the chid of Rachel, his favorite
wife.
Joseph's brothers hated him for being
their father's favorite. They sold him
into slavery and told Jacob that Joseph
was attacked by an animal. In the end
Joseph was in charge of all of Egypt,
and he reunited with his family by
forgiving them.
Jacob left his home to find a wife,
and ended up with two. He
married sisters, Leah and Rachel.
5. Exodus
The Israelites were
slaves in Egypt for
over 400 years.
Pharaoh's daughter
found Moses in the
river as a baby, and
she raised him as her
own son.
Moses was the on God chose to bring
the Israelites out of slavery. Pharaoh
made this hard because he wouldn't let
the people go, so God sent down the 10
plagues.
The final plague was first born death, and
God told his people how to avoid this
plague. They had to paint the blood of a
lamb on their door frames so the Holy Spirit
would pass over them.
This was known as the first passover.
After Moses and his people
escaped the Egyptian by
walking through the split sea,
they made their way to the
Promise Land.
The Israelites followed a thick cloud of smoke during
the day, and a pillar of fire at night that led them to
the Promise Land.
6. Judges
The Israelites are wandering through the
Promise Land, and God sends them wandering
through the wilderness because of their sin.
God sends numerous judges to
his people to pull them out of
their sinful ways, and focus on
him again.
The Israelites have a pattern of
being faithful to God, and then
turning around and disobeying him.
God sent 14 Judges to the Israelites.
Out of the 14, Deborah and Samson
are the most well known judges.
The 12 tribes start to fall apart, even
almost the whole tribe of Benjamin is
wiped out in a vicious fight.
7. The Kings
Saul was anointed king when
he was young, and later a
fulfilled God's plan. He was a
good king at first, but became
wicked.
When David finally became king, he made
some big mistakes. He had a son with
someone else's wife, and to cover it up he
killed the husband! His son's name was
Solomon.
God told David he couldn't rebuild the
temple, so Solomon did.
Rehoboam and Jerhoboam become the kings of
the north and the south. The nation of Israel is
divided, and they go to war.
When Solomon became king, and
was the wisest king. God was
pleased with him until he started
worshipping his wives' gods.
Saul had a son who was best friends with
David, who happened to be anointed. Saul
didn't want David to be king, so he tried to kill
him.
8. Civil War
After Solomon died, the
nation went downhill. God's
people turned away from him
by rebelling against his laws.
God would've
destroyed Israel, but
he promised Abraham
to keep his nation.
Only 2 of the 12 tribes were apart of the southern
kingdom. The other 10 were apart of the northern
kingdom.
After Solomon's death, his sons became the
kings of the divided nation
Rehoboam became the king of the south,
calling it Judah. Jerhoboam became the king
of the north, keeping its original name as
Israel.
Rehoboam had the blessing from his
father to be king, but Jerhoboam was a
better military leader.
