Strengths (ACT)
1. Applied for Government use rather than individual use
2. Attempts to find an ethical theory which suits all situations
3. Good/ethical way of settling a dilemma
Strengths (RULE)
1. Highlights the underlying dangers of the Hedonic Calculus
2. Very optimistic
3. Takes individual differences into account
4. Looks at the protection of individuals and the community
Weaknesses (ACT)
1. Sadism is justifiable is they are the majority
2. It's practical application makes it hard to determine the consequences
3. When actively placed in the situation, it's hard to think about consequences
4. They can only be determined at a simplistic level
Weaknesses (BOTH)
1. Not every action is done out of goodwill and will present a good consequence
2. Its subjective/ a collectivist approach
3. Ignores prima facia relationships
4. Some religious believers are thankful for pain as it helps them become closer to God
5. Not all pain and suffering has bad consequences e.g. childbirth
