  1. CHAPTER 1
    1. TRINITY
      1. Catholics believe God is a trinity of three persons.
        1. Catholics dont believe in three Gods.
          1. The Nicene Creed professes the Christian belief in the Trinity.
            1. The Trinity is mentioned during Baptism and Mass.
            2. THE TRINITY IN THE BIBLE.
              1. Doctrine is a teaching passed on by the CC to help others know about god, themselves and life.
                1. A creed is a formal statement of what the CC believes and teaches.
                  1. The Council of Niciea (325ce) produced the creed of Niciea, which said that Jesus was as much as god as the father is God.
                    1. In 381ce the first council of Constantinople decalred that the holy spirit was also Consubstanial with the father and the son.
                    2. CREATION
                      1. There are two accounts of Creation in genesis 1-3
                        1. John 1:1-5 provides an account of the words (the son's) role in Creation.
                          1. The CC interprets the Genisis accounts and explains that God is the ultimate Creator of all that exists.
                            1. The accounts of Creation confirm the God as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
                              1. Creation reveals God as Creator, Benevolent,omnipotent and eternal.
                              2. THE INCARNATION
                                1. Incarnation means en-fleshment.
                                  1. The second person of the Trinity, the word of God, became human in Jesus of Nazareth.
                                    1. Jesus Christ is the God-man: fully God and fully human at the same time.
                                      1. Scripture references the incarnation of Jesus.
                                        1. The incarnation continues through the life of the church.
                                        2. THE PASCHAL MYSTERY
                                          1. Human beings are saved from the sin by the work of Jesus, also by the Paschal Mystery.
                                            1. The Paschal Mystery is the Passion, Death, Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus.
                                              1. Redemption is a metaphor used to explain Paschal Mystery "brought about" salvation.
                                                1. Paschal Mystery restores humans to adjust a relationship with God.
                                                  1. Jesus resurrection is the foundation of the christian faith and the catholic church.
                                                    1. Humans follow jesus to heaven and for the holy spirit to continue the work of salvation within the church.
                                                    2. THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PASCHAL MYSTERY.
                                                      1. The holy spirit helps the church to understand and live out more fully, salvation.
                                                        1. Humans cannot save themselves, but can choose to accept salvation.
                                                          1. Catholics participate in the Paschal Mystery through the life of Church.
                                                            1. Gods grace gives Catholics strength to do this through the liturgy and the Scaraments.
                                                              1. The Eucharist is the most important expression of the Paschal Mystery in Church today.
                                                              2. ESCHATOLOGY.
                                                                1. Eschatology is the study of christian teaching about the last things in a human Life Death,Judgment, Heaven, Hell and Purgatory.
                                                                  1. Catholic views on Eschatology are rooted in the paschal mystery.
                                                                    1. Catholics connect to god by showing love to others.
                                                                      1. God alone is eternal.
                                                                      2. CREATION AND THE NATURE OF HUMANITY.
                                                                        1. Humans being created alone are created in the image of god..
                                                                          1. Humans beings are part of creation, but superior through reason and free will which makes them stewards of creation.
                                                                        2. CHAPTER 2
                                                                          1. THE SACRAMENTAL NATURE OF REALITY.
                                                                            1. The Scaramental nature of reality means finding the grace of God in the physical world.
                                                                              1. Each Sacrament brings Catholics closer to God in different way and communicates his love for them in varied but never-ending ways.
                                                                                1. The Sacraments of initiation are Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist.
                                                                                2. LITURGICAL WORSHIP.
                                                                                  1. The Liturgy is the work done by God, in Jesus Christ, for the good of all people.
                                                                                    1. Liturgical worship is the participation of Catholics through the Church in Gods work of making people holy.
                                                                                      1. The Eucharist is both a remembrance and the making present again of Jesus sacrifice. It is the source and summit of Christian life.
                                                                                        1. Evangelical Christians have a less formal structure of worship to reflect their focus on the holy spirit and word of God.
                                                                                        2. FUNERAL RITES.
                                                                                          1. The funeral rite is a ritual in which the CC hands back a child to God the Father.
                                                                                            1. The rites consist of: the vigil, the funeral liturgy and the rite of committal and commendation.
                                                                                              1. Proclamation of eternal life strengthens faith through the belief in life after death.
                                                                                              2. PRAYER
                                                                                                1. Non-liturgical acts of worship are deotions which are not part of the official public liturgy of the church.
                                                                                                  1. The Rosary is a string of beads to help focus a series of prayers.
                                                                                                    1. The 14 stations of the cross depict moments of Christs suffering and death.
                                                                                                      1. Liturgical worship helps Catholics pray in community, while non-liturgical worship helps Catholics pray more individually.
                                                                                                      2. PILGRIMAGE.
                                                                                                        1. Pilgrimages are journeys to special places of religion significance.
                                                                                                          1. Places are often connected to the lives of Jesus, Mary, apostles and saints.
                                                                                                            1. There are many different sites including Rome, Lourdes, Walsingham and Jerusalem.
                                                                                                              1. Jerusalem is the place of where the paschal mystery took place. It is also the birthplace of the church at Pentecost.
                                                                                                              2. CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING
                                                                                                                1. The church works universally for the love of neighbour, following the commandments of Christ and his own example.
                                                                                                                  1. Catholic social teaching promotes justice, peace and reconciliation.
                                                                                                                    1. Catholics follow the example of good samaritan to respond to need.
                                                                                                                      1. CAFOD works with many countries including england.
                                                                                                                      2. CATHOLIC MISSION AND EVANGELISM.
                                                                                                                        1. Mission conveys the idea of a person being sent to others in order to help them, or to bring something that will benefit them.
                                                                                                                          1. Jesus was sent by the father into the world on mission. the spirit was sent by father and son.
                                                                                                                            1. jesus sent the apostles to go into the world to proclaim and live out the gospel.
                                                                                                                          2. CHAPTER 7
                                                                                                                            1. THE ALMIGHTY
                                                                                                                              1. GOD IS ONE, CREATOR, LAWGIVER AND JUDGE.
                                                                                                                                1. THESE QUALITIES OF GOD AND GENERALLY AGREED UPON BY ALL JEWS.
