Definitions HEALTH, FITNESS, EXERCISE and PERFORMANCEHealth: A state of complete mental, physical and social well being and not merely the absence of a disease or infirmity.Fitness: The ability to meet the demands of the environment and still have energy left.Exercise: An activity requiring physical effort that helps sustain or improve your health and fitness.Performance: How well a task is completed.HEALTH RELATED FITNESSCardiovascular Fitness - the ability to exercise the entire body for long periods of time.Muscular Strength - the amount of force a muscle can exert against a resistance.Muscular Endurance - the ability to use voluntary muscles many times without getting tired.Flexibility - the range of movement possible of a joint.Body composition - Th percentage of body weight that is fat, muscle and bone.SKILL RELATED FITNESSBalance - the ability to retain the centre mass (gravity) of the body above the base support with reference to static or dynamic conditions of movement, shape and orientation.Coordination - the ability to use two or more body parts together.Power - The ability to undertake strength performances quickly. Power = strength x speed.Reaction time - the line between the presentation of a stimulus and the onset of movement.Speed - the differential rate of which at which an individual is able to perform a movement or cover or cover a distance in a period of time.INDIVIDUAL NEEDSIndividual needs is when you have to make necessary changes in the terms of sports. For example, if a person has asthma they will be less likely to contribute and participate in a distance run because of their body types and skills.
