Theory behind clubbing of fingers- thought to be due to -inflammatory conditions -R to L shunting These conditions cause increased production (former only) and increased presence of (both) megakaryocytes (platelet precursors) in the circulation. These megakaryocytes pass into the axial circulation and get stuck in the capillaries of the fingers, leading to clubbing.
